CDI's major activity is the design and delivery of short term, intensive and high quality training projects that focus on improving parliamentary and political party processes, systems and integrity by engaging with both elected representatives and relevant secretariats, offices, and officials. The clear challenge is to help build stronger party and parliamentary structures which are robust, sustainable and (most importantly) can play a positive role in the process of development.
CDI employs internationally acknowledged best-practice approaches in delivering its projects in a non-partisan, gradual and responsive manner both in Australia and partner countries. CDI draws on Australian, regional, and international expertise in the form of democratic institutions such as Australian and New Zealand legislatures; major Australian political parties; independent and institutionally affiliated Australian and regionally based consultants, practitioners and other relevant experts.
Given our emphasis on engaging with present and future decision makers from our focus countries within Asia and the Pacific, CDI's training projects for parliamentarians, parliamentary secretariats, political party officials and relevant civil society actors often include new and up-and-coming members of parliament and party organizers. The Centre delivers its training programs mindful of both gender issues and ethnic and religious sensitivities. |
