“The Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam would like to express its thanks to CDI for organising study tours to Australia for the Vietnamese Courts. These study tours have proved to be a valuable experience and have made a significant impression upon the Vietnamese Courts. It would be extremely useful if these activities were to continue in the future.” Mr. Ngo Cuong, Deputy Director, Institute for Judicial Science, The Supreme People’s Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (December 2003)

I would like to thank CDI for supporting ombudsman institutions in the Pacific Region to attend courses in Australian Institutions. Having attended one such course I must say that the training I have received will greatly assist me in enhancing my work back in PNG. Once again thank you and we look forward to your continued support.

Feedback from the Indonesian Parliament
Following the publication on the CDI website of Struggling to Change: The Indonesian Parliament in an Era of Reformasi - A report on the structure and operation of the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR), CDI received a most welcome letter from the Secretary-General of the DPR, Ibu Sitti Nurhajati Daud, in which she said "I would like to thank you very much for sending me a copy of report of the research project undertaken by Dr. Stephen Sherlock a couple of months ago at the Indonesian House of Representatives. My thanks should also go to CDI that has made such project possible, and to Dr. Sherlock who has shown a great interest to the work of the Indonesian House and offered a valuable research. We always welcome and appreciate highly any effort to provide us with inputs regarding the performance of the Indonesian House. I believe that only with open mind to any assessment or constructive critique, the Indonesian House would be able to improve its performance."
...we would love to be included in the mailing list for the CDI newsletter and any other articles that you think will be helpful for our regional work on governance.

The Centre for Democratic Institutions (CDI) is a government-funded body that supports the efforts of new democracies in the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen their political systems. It provides training, technical assistance and peer support for parliamentarians and emerging leaders in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific, with a particular focus on Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji.

The Australian Government established CDI in 1998. It is funded primarily by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). One of the primary ways in which CDI works to promote democracy is through strengthening parliamentary governance and political parties. The Centre focusses on parliamentary and political party development, and conducts flagship training courses and policy-relevant research on these subjects.
